A Quiet Morning at Home with a Kindred Spirit

There is something deeply comforting about being seen by someone who already understands you. The lovely Sarah Mac arrived at our hinterland home as a stranger, yet somehow felt like an old friend. A UK photographer travelling Australia with her family in their campervan, following the sun, chasing moments, living slowly. We had never met in person before, just followed each other on the ‘gram – connected through a love of photography and old Hymers but from the moment she stepped onto our land, it felt like a meeting of kindred spirits.

Our home sits tucked into the rolling hills of the Byron Bay hinterland. It is imperfect, unfinished and full of big dreams. We have plans for it, so many plans! But we also love it exactly as it is right now. The way the morning light filters through the windows. The sound of chickens rustling in the grass. The dog padding across the timber floor. Children still soft with sleep, wrapped in that slow, hazy calm that only early mornings bring.

This shoot wasn’t about styling or perfection. It was about presence. About capturing a season of life exactly as it is.

A Morning, Just As It Was

Sarah arrived quietly, camera in hand, blending into the rhythm of our morning. No rush. No forced smiles, no instructions. Just gentle observation and an incredible ability to notice the beauty in ordinary moments.

She photographed bare feet on wooden floors, messy hair and sleepy cuddles. The kids wandering outside to collect eggs, chickens underfoot. The soft chaos of breakfast. The stillness that lives between the noise. These are the moments that shape childhood, the ones that don’t feel remarkable while they are happening, yet somehow become the most precious memories later.

Our home was alive in those images. Not staged or polished, but real, warm and honest. Full of movement and quiet all at once. And that is where the magic lies.

A Home in Progress, A Life Being Lived

This place is evolving. We dream of what it will become, while holding deep gratitude for what it already is. It holds our days, our growing children, our animals, our routines, our pauses. It holds the small rituals that build a life. Sarah captured it all so beautifully. The tree house the wild garden, the old cabin, the morning mess, the golden light. The way the kids move through the space as if it is an extension of themselves. The way home wraps around us.

These photographs are not just images. They are memories, layered with feeling. Thank you Sarah, forever grateful for this gift and meeting you x

I alos had the honour of capturing Sarah and her boys at the beach to help the remember the magic of Byron Bay. You can see the photos from that shoot here.
